Title: [10/12/12]
Fandom: Chrono Trigger
Characters: Magus
Rating: T
Warnings: Spoilers. And maybe some accidental implications of Magus/Crono.
Summary: Magus reflects on the team and how he fits into it. Normally the two most silent characters understand each other, but it feels that there’s something missing.
Notes: Two at once, go me!!. I succeeded at something.

Dedicated to Kots/Ben <3. Who is, as always, amazing, awesome, and adorably amusing –which must be how Star puts up with you <3-.

Prompt: Getting Accustomed.

It feels like it’s been decades since he last had a civil conversation with a human being –technically it’s been longer, but he’s not getting into that-, but he finds that the words come just as easily as they did before, when he was alone in that castle with only monsters for company. That is to say, they don’t come at all and when they do, it either comes out as a command or something that makes his allies’ faces tighten or darken. He is not here to be their friend or companion, but to meet a common goal, and if they can’t understand that, maybe they should have killed him instead.

Their team is mish-mashed enough that this concept should not be hard to grasp, and yet somehow, for their puny minds, it is. The blonde, bouncy archer keeps ambushing him for team bonding whenever they are left together at the altar. The primitive woman keeps tackling him out of some misplaced affection. The rest ignore him, for the most part, unless in battle or there is a puzzle to be solved.

Their leader, however, is different. Crono speaks even less than he does, if that is possible, and seems to answer their questions with a series of stares and body gestures. He’s not sure how he feels about that, when it seems that everyone but him can understand what Crono is saying. He only understands when he wants him to accompany him –or the group being sent out-, and even then Crono has to stare at him a while to get his message across.

It goes against everything he’s read. Silent characters should naturally understand each other, or so Schala’s novels –and later’s Flea’s- had convinced him. It was odd, it was unique.

It was refreshing.

He kind of liked it.
