Title: 31 Days of Chaos: Dec 8th, A Question of Life
Fandom: Final Fantasy IX
Pairing: Kuja/Zidane
Rating: T
Warnings: Implied Character death, implied love between males, etc, etc.
Summary: Zidane asks a question Kuja isn't ready to give the answer to.
Notes: For
firehedgehog, who never fails to talk me into doing something I probably wouldn't otherwise. Set after the game, obviously.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, I don't own it. No money is being made off of this, as it is a fanwork, made solely for the enjoyment of my friends and myself.
Prompt:
The question came sooner than Kuja had expected, and all he could do was smile sadly at Zidane as the child asked 'If you're dying now, how much time do I have left?'. The elder had only been built to last until the other was fully functional as an Angel of Death; the younger had been built to last an eternity. In good conscience, even as he lay dying, he could not answer that question, knowing how painful it was to leave, knowing that it was even more so to be left behind. Eternally left behind.
So Kuja remained silent, showing his love for his brother in the only way he could, hoping that one day he would forgive him for this bout of silence and knew that he had only wished to live, but he knew, with the certainty that only the dying ever know, that age will eventually make his memory grow bitter and hateful. He accepted it, as much as he wished otherwise.
