chaos_silk: Healing Wind (Kharg)
Title: Crash!
Fandom: Arc the Lad
Warnings: Heavily AU, based on what might have happened had Kharg been the one thrown from the Airship when it crashed in Asheeda forest, eventual Darc/Kharg. That means Yaoi/Shonen-ai/Slash/MalexMale/Whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it and Twincest. You have been warned, Flames will simply be laughed at. Non-racist Kharg.
Summary: What could've been, had Darc and Kharg had a meeting in Asheeda forest instead of meeting the way they did.

Disclaimer: I do not own Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits and fans everywhere should be happy that I don't because the game certainly would've gone very differently.

A/N: Doom did it. I wasn’t going to do anything else with this until she mentioned she liked it. So, here is one of my two A.U fics.

Kharg had spent the entire flight standing in front of the huge windows at the front of the Big Owl’s cockpit, watching the clouds and sunlight shimmer off the water below. When he had first taken up the post, he had stated that it was for security purposes, that he had to keep a look out for the Dilzweld army –which it was, partly-. The other four had simply exchanged amused glances before taking up their own ‘posts’.

Paulette had discovered her motion sickness a couple minutes after take-off, and had immediately dashed into the cabin, trying to keep her lunch down. A worried Lilia had followed her, trying to help. Maru had claimed one of the smaller windows near the back of the cockpit, having announced that he was scared that he might fall out of the larger windows Kharg stood in front of. Ganz, being the only one with any flight experience, stood at the helm, dutifully making sure they did not fly too far off course.

Thus far, it had been a quiet flight, far too quiet for Kharg and Ganz’s liking. Occasionally they would exchange worried glances before Kharg would turn back to scanning the skies. They didn’t know when the Dilzweld would strike, or where, but it was certain that they were going to attack. Surely, they would not let Lilia go that easily, not when they were so close to getting what they wanted. Not when they could lose everything.

“I can see land.” Kharg suddenly announced, breathing a relieved sigh as he spotted the bit of green on the horizon. They were almost there, just a bit more and then they would be safe. Lilia would be safe. The Dilzweld would not dare attack the World Alliance. He hoped.

“We’re not out of the woods yet.” Ganz said quietly. “That’s Deimos territory.”

“What kind of Deimos live there?” Kharg asked, frowning as he remembered the desperation of the Drakyr he had fought, how vicious they had been in their attacks until they had finally fallen beneath his blade. Then he recalled the terror of the canine Deimos they had stumbled across in the forest. How the -mother?- larger deimos had clutched the smaller –child?- to her chest, trying to protect him from the humans even as they died from the wounds already inflicted on them. The quiet whimpering, and yelping, would not fade from his mind.

In a way, he couldn’t blame the large deimos for killing Lloyd as he had wondered if the former defense commander was doing the right thing. According to what he had been taught, it was absolutely unforgivable to attack an unarmed woman or a child, no matter what the circumstances. Kharg could not fathom why Lloyd had done such a thing, after all, he was the one who taught him that. Did it not matter because they were Deimos? They were just trying to live too.

“Orcon mostly, nasty beasts.” Ganz said, disgust plain in his voice, breaking through Kharg’s musing. He nodded once, to show he had understood.

Were the deimos really as bad as everyone made them out to be? His mother did not think so, and she usually was right about these things. Therefore, until he had concrete proof that the Deimos were as bad as everyone said they were, he was going to trust in his mother and not attack them unless they attacked first.

“Dilzweld!” Maru shouted a minute too late as the ship rocked to the side, shaken by a barrage of missiles. Kharg pitched forward, catching himself on the glass as he instinctively turned to face Maru.

“Damn.” Ganze swore, trying frantically to right the ship. “They must have been following us.” Kharg snorted, trying not to slip again as he climbed to his feet, clutching the window. An alarm started to blare as Paulette and Lilia ran out of the cabin.

“What’s going on?” Paulette demanded, looking green as the airship rocked again. Lilia stumbled and clutched at the wall, nearly falling as Maru darted past her, into the cabin.
“We’re losing altitude. I think the last shot took out the engines.” Ganz shouted, frantically pressing buttons. From Kharg’s standpoint, he didn’t seem to be doing much good, and he certainly wasn’t making that alarm shut up.

“Everyone, find something to hold on to”. Kharg yelled, realizing that he probably was not going to be able to get away from the windows fast enough as the ship began to make a quick descent. He clung to the window’s edge, praying that the glass did not break upon impact, and if it did, that it didn’t hurt too much. Ganz dropped to his knees, clutching at the control panel as Lilia and Paulette clung to the wall and to one another.

“We’re all going to die!” Maru wailed from somewhere inside the cabin, just seconds before impact. It was the last thing Kharg heard before the glass beneath him shattered and pain filled his world.
