Summary: Post F.3.A.R. Pointman wins. Now what?
Notes: This is one of those that’s just for me.

There’s no happy ending, not for any of them.

Not for his father-grandfather, liquified the daughter he impregnated and sealed away. Not for his sister-mother, burning with rage and bloodthirst. Not for his brother, dead twice over.

And especially not for Point—The Point Man. No name, no purpose, no spite to keep him going.

The sky is fire. The world is still halfway under Alma’s influence even as she starts to finally fade away. Point gently cradles his newest sibling to his chest even as Fettel’s aura flares, threatening to reform. He shoots him again, the edges of his vision sharpening as he focuses to make sure he gets him this time. He’ll be back, just like Alma will eventually be back.

There’s no happiness to be found; just an unending cycle of pain and fear. Point wants to be the last link in the chain, the one who finally makes it stop. He’s done his own share of hurting and being hurt—he killed his brother. He thinks that fate might belong to the tiny bundle yawning contentedly in his arms instead.

She’s tiny, perfect and like nothing he’s experienced before. She’s lighter than anything he’s ever carried, yet somehow the heaviest burden he’ll ever shoulder.

There are no happy endings here.

Just mediocre ones.

He picks through the ruins of a normal family home, swapping his combat gear for civvies, shaving away his beard. He doesn’t recognize the man he sees in the cracked mirror. With a little luck, no one else will either.

Emergency services are always swirling around the outskirts, trying to extract any survivors from the mess. They don’t question him when he hobbles up, baby cradled to his chest like a lifeline. They’re too blinded by relief to see a survivor to question why—or how, he survived.

He has no name to give them. They name him, it doesn’t take and he names her (Alyssa). She becomes his daughter. They’re swept away from the warzone and hidden away before those that made him find them.

The world has seen enough of psychic war.

They settle. A small town, a normal town. No strange psychics, no monsters, no military.

It’s nice.

Then Becket appears. Nothing like the angry, fearful man he was before. He’s quieter than a ghost, aura black, heavy and empty in a way Point can’t read. He watches them go about their day from the corner, black ooze dripping down his face.

Point doesn’t shoot him, just watches him warily, waiting for him to make a move, a sound, something.

He watches them for weeks, expressionless, unmoving. Until finally he does, Point is feeding Alyssa a bottle of formula when Becket is suddenly beside him, one hand cupping her cheek delicately. All three of them stare at each other and then…

He’s gone.

Point thinks he might be forgiven.

It’s enough.
