December 25, 2008: Gerudo Race

Title: December 25, 2008: Gerudo Race
Fandom: Legend of Zelda.
Warnings: None.
Summary: A question voiced by a young Gerudo girl on her first visit to Castle Town.

Disclaimer: I own nothing, but the concept.

Written for December 25, 2008, in celebration of the year ending/Christmas.

Dedicated to my boyfriend.

Prompt: Just a little image I had in my head.

“Mommy.” A young Gerudo child cried out, her eyes wide as she glanced about the huge marketplace. Her mother glanced down, running her fingers over where her daughter’s little hands were clenched in the fabric of her loose pants, a knowing smile on her face. “That lady doesn’t have any boobies.” She announced loudly, raising her small hand to point at a young man scanning a nearby booth. He glanced at them, looking more amused than insulted, something that the mother was grateful for. Sometimes the hyrulian men took offence at being called a lady by the young ones, but for the most part, they were understanding.

“That’s because he’s not a lady sweetie.” She explained patiently, smiling brightly at the young man as he turned back to his shopping. Her daughter’s eyes grew even wider, her mouth falling open. Not a lady? ...Then that must mean...

“You mean...” She paused, taking a deep breath as she looked up at her mother’s face. “....That’s a boy?” She gasped out in a rush, staring at the man for all she was worth, trying to identify the difference between him and the Gerudo she had seen every day of her life. Her mother bit her lip, holding back her laughter as the man’s head whipped around, apparently being affronted at the thought of being called a boy. She waved him on, her other hand resting on the hilt of her scimitar.

“Yes sweetheart, that’s a boy.” She said, patting her awestruck little girl on the head.

“Wow...” The little girl whispered, staring for all she was worth. She then glanced up at her mother, eyes curious. “Mommy.... How do they keep their shirts on without boobs?”

She could not help it, her daughter’s seemingly innocent question sent her into a laughing fit so fierce her sides would hurt for days afterward.

Well, Gerudo always wear a top that requires boobs to hold it up, I think it’s a perfectly reasonable question from a child who’s only ever seen women dressed in that attire.

Late as hell, but totally worth it.
